Technology

On Tuesday and Wednesday the 12th and 13th of October, Mana Syndicate was doing Technology. On Tuesday the 12th Room 2 were making bridges in our table groups. We made them out of 15 pieces of newspaper. After we sorted out the newspapers, Anna set the timer for 20 minutes. When the timer went we started building our bridges. Julia and Jessica’s table did the biggest and widest bridge. The bridge had to hold Anna’s toy moose. Julia’s table went first because we had the moose on our table. We put Mr Moose in the middle of our bridge and then… our bridge… fell over! The last group won.

Room 2 Plays Tennis

At Plimmerton School, Kowhai, Mana and Hongoeka Syndicates played tennis. When Room 2 went to play, we did a game called Pacman. The way to play it is you pick 4 Pac-men and the rest have to run away from the pac-men on the yellow lines.

Next Room 2 practised playing tennis with a partner. Katie hit the ball too hard and Aimee hit it too high – it was harder than we thought!
After that Room 2 played Padda tennis. The way to play it is you pick 6 people to be the catchers and the spares are the hitters. If you are a hitter and you don’t hit it over the net, you become a catcher. When you’re a catcher you have to catch the ball when it gets hit over the net. Blake missed out because he got hurt – poor Blake! That was the day Room 2 went to tennis. We can’t wait to try again next week!

Te Papa Visit 2010

In Mana Syndicate we were learning about drama, dance, art, music and poetry, so we were having a visit to… TE PAPA! Our tour guides were Aaron, Andrew and last of all Riria. When we stepped inside everyone was crowded so we had to squeeze. Olivia and I learnt so many things, like you can make your own stories when you are looking at the artist’s work. Left or right? You’re right, you can! We went to things like the Earthquake House, caves, rumpus rooms, and last of all computer rooms. We had so much fun and we hope you did as well.

Swimming

On term four, weeks one, two, five and six, Mana Syndicate are doing swimming! We have had… SO MUCH FUN! (so far). On Monday we had our first swim and only like nine people remembered their togs. On Tuesday there was a BIG difference – only Jess forgot her togs (sorry Jess) but anyway, all 23 of us had great fun. Today is our last day swimming this week and we’re pretty sure we’re going to have great fun again!

Stu Duval

Last week Mana Syndicate were lucky enough to have Stu Duval come and take us for a drawing workshop. We got to use chalk pastels which was a lot of fun. We learnt how to draw portraits. Did you know that when you're drawing, a person's eyes sit half-way down your face?!
Have a look at some of the pictures of us at the workshop and come in to see all our finished work displayed in the hallway outside our classroom.

Stu showing us how to draw a face.

Lucas learning how to work with chalk pastel.

Millie part-way through her masterpiece.

Vinnie shows us how it's done :)

Zoe and her finished work - isn't it great?!
